Radio 4VEH - Haiti
12/28/2017
This
Christmas, One Mission Society (OMS) – Haiti received a special gift of having the
Michel family (Storly, Kate, Hannah, and Esther) celebrate Christmas here at
the OMS field compound.
Rev.
Storly is the director of Radio 4VEH, and Kate is the director of fundraising,
marketing , and communications. The
Michels live in Columbus, Indiana, about 30 miles from OMS headquarters in
Greenwood, Indiana, and they travel to Haiti several times a year.
Storly
and Kate met while living in England while attending Oxford Centre form Mission
Studies in 2002. They married in
2004. Storly began his ministry with
Radio 4VEH in 1996, Kate joined the OMS family in 2008. Https://onemissionsociety.org/give/TheMichels
Rev. Storly, family, and
friends broadcasted live Christmas Eve, starting at 6 a.m. until Christmas morning
6 a.m. In this photo, field leader,
Brett and the Bundy family joined the celebration.
Radio
4VEH was the first ministry in Haiti with OMS in Cap-Haitian. Radio 4VEH
transmitted its first radio program on June 2, 1950, after missionary, Brother
G. T. Bustin, was obedient to God’s call to begin a radio station and call it
The Evangelistic Voice of Haiti. In 1958,
OMS joined this ministry. This amazing history is recorded in the book, Let the Rocks Cry Out by Rachel Picazo.
Radio
4VEH broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Inspirational and informative
programs include Bible teaching, worship, news, school and vocational
education, and family and community-focused programs. What started in 1950 with
one missionary transmitting behind the church, with God’s grace, has grown into
a large ministry field, reaching across most of Haiti and to some neighboring
islands, and outside Haiti via partner stations in the U.S. and via the
Internet to Haitians all around the world. Radio 4VEH’s programming is strong
in biblical content, culturally relevant, and speaks to the whole of life in
Haiti. You can listen now at: https://radio4veh.org/en/
A
new campaign was launched to give out solar-powered radios. It was called Operation
Saturation through the Men for Missions International office at OMS. The
campaign ended in 2005, but the need to make and send solar-powered radios to
the Haitian people only grew. Therefore,
the new campaign is on-going and is called Resounding Hope. The goal of
Resounding Hope is to deliver 160,000 solar radios and impact one million
people with the Good News of Jesus Christ through daily broadcasting. https://resoundinghope.org/
Over
the last five years, 70,000 people heard the Gospel and were connected with a
local church. More than 10,000 people
made decisions for Christ on the day of outreach, and 13,000 radios have been distributed,
now reaching 78,000 people daily. The
ministry has also supported the planting of 4 new churches and trained 46 other
churches in northern Haiti in evangelism.
For
each radio, we can reach six people per home. When a team comes to the mission
field in Haiti, we take them out for a day of evangelism with the solar radios.
They get to see firsthand the people that are being saved from darkness.
I
asked Kate, “What is your favorite thing about Radio 4VEH’s ministry?” Kate’s
answer, “I am always looking for ways God is using the ministry, and I am
always blown away by how God is using the ministries. So, I never have to doubt
whether this ministry is making a difference.” Then I asked Kate, “If you could
have a big God ask, what is your prayer for the ministry?” Kate replied, “For God to provide the people
who would give regularly.”
Will
God use you to answer Radio 4VEH’s prayers? Becoming a monthly donor provides
steady, reliable funds that help take care of all areas of ministry so Radio
4VEH can continue to be on the air and deliver the Gospel of Jesus. A monthly
gift of $25 will sponsor a 30-minute radio program. https://onemissionsociety.org/give/radio-4veh
